Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, leading the Election Commission of India (ECI), convened a press conference to unveil the schedule for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024. The electoral process for the 543 Lok Sabha seats will unfold across seven phases, commencing on April 19, as disclosed by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar on Saturday. The tallying of votes is slated for June 4.
The declaration of the Lok Sabha election dates for 2024 follows the recent appointment of two new Election Commissioners, Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, just two days prior. This appointment ensued after the unexpected resignation of Arun Goel last week and the retirement of Anup Chandra Pandey on February 14.
The activation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) will follow the announcement of the Lok Sabha election dates for 2024. This mandates that political parties, candidates, and governmental entities must adhere to the specified regulations outlined by the Election Commission of India (ECI) concerning their rhetoric, declarations, election manifestos, and related activities.
